When still a schoolboy in New Zealand, William Wells won a scholarship and travelled to the UK to undertake basic nautical training.
During his long seafaring career, he became a Master Mariner, a Ship’s Captain and a licensed Commercial Marine Pilot.
A gifted lecturer, he was invited by Cunard to be Principal Speaker for the final cruise of the QE2.

8:00pm An Evening with the humour of Bob Newhart & Tom Lehrer
Peter Gill has joined forces with actor extraordinaire Andrew Meller to present a show dedicated to the satirical humour of two American comic legends.
During the fifties and sixties Bob Newhart and Tom Lehrer were regarded as the best American satirists.
Lehrer with his sharp, often macabre wit sang grotesquely comic songs such as The Masochism Tango and Poisoning Pigeons in the Park.
Newhart, with his far more gentle humour, gave us ever popular sketches like The Driving Instructor and Introducing Tobacco to Civilisation.
Classics like these will have you rolling about in laughter.
At Ramada Hotel - Tickets £14 (£13)
