Art lecture . Dr Beth Williamson

… To complement the Methodist Art Collection Exhibition God in the Flesh: the Human Christ in medieval to modern art.

This lecture will explore the ways in which Christ’s human nature and his physical body have been explored in art, from the earliest Christian art through to the contemporary period.

It will also look at controversies that have been engendered by the representation of Christ’s human body; from medieval arguments over the propriety of images to more recent storms of debate.

Beth Williamson is the Senior Lecturer in the History of Art at the University of Bristol.
