Bewdley Festival - Structure and Governance

Bewdley Festival Ltd is an organisation whose purposes are exclusively charitable. Events are held primarily to raise funds for the charity. All the funds raised are for the charity’s benefit and used in carrying out its objectives.

Bewdley Festival Society was formed in December 1987, when a public meeting held in the Guild Hall, decided to launch an annual festival of the arts designed:

“To bring the best into Bewdley and to bring the best out of Bewdley”.

Thanks to the continued support and encouragement of the many Friends of Bewdley Festival, patrons, private donors and business supporters, Bewdley Festival has developed and expanded over the years to become an eagerly awaited part of the local calendar and has held an arts festival in the town of Bewdley every year since 1988.

The organisation and governance of the Festival has also developed since that time and it is now run as a two tier structure.

Bewdley Festival Limited is a registered charity and the directors/trustees of the company hold the overall responsibility of ensuring that Festival activities and finances are correctly delivered,

The day to day running of Festival activities is the responsibility of the Festival Society that is run by an elected committee.

Bewdley Festival Limited (A Registered Charity)

Bewdley Festival Limited is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. The ultimate responsibility for the general running of Festival activities and administration lies with the board of directors (trustees).

The company’s objectives are “to advance the education of the public by way of the promotion of the arts and the provision of appropriate facilities, particularly in the neighbourhood of Bewdley”.

The company is governed by way of a Council of Management of which the majority are nominees of the Festival Society and these normally include the Society Chairman.

The remaining members are one of; the original subscribers, local business people appointed for their particular expertise, the Festival Treasurer and the Company Secretary.

The Council meets periodically to consider the progress of the Festival, approve budgets and annual accounts, monitor the ongoing financial position and to safeguard the Festival’s aims and objectives and overall artistic integrity.

Both committees liaise and interact on a regular basis with other organisations and businesses in the Town.
